Take a Stance: Are You Lukewarm?
A Personal Realization
For the longest time, I was the kind of person who avoided hard conversations.
I didn’t want to argue.
I didn’t want to debate.
I didn’t want conflict.
And because of that…
I also avoided taking a stance.
I would say things like,
“I don’t pay attention to that—I’m just about loving people.”
And while that sounds right… it wasn’t fully true.
Because deep down, I was avoiding truth.
Avoiding conviction.
And in a way… avoiding standing firmly in God’s way.
What It Means to Be Lukewarm
To be lukewarm isn’t always what people think.
It’s not just someone who openly denies Jesus.
It can be someone who:
- claims faith
- believes in God
- but doesn’t live it out
Faith by name… but not by action.
And here’s something important:
You don’t have to call yourself a Christian to live in a lukewarm way.
There is always a tension between:
- God’s way
- and the ways of the flesh
The Fence Isn’t Neutral
There’s a story I once heard that completely changed how I saw this.
A man came to a beautiful garden.
It was divided into two sides by a fence.
On one side was God and His angels.
On the other side was Satan and his demons.
The man didn’t choose either.
Instead, he sat on the fence—watching, thinking, waiting.
One day, God and His angels returned to Heaven.
Satan and his demons went back to hell.
But before Satan left completely, he came back for the man.
The man said,
“I didn’t choose God—and I didn’t choose you.”
And Satan replied:
“The fence is mine.”
The Deception
The choice may seem obvious—right vs. wrong.
But it’s not always that simple.
Because deception doesn’t always look evil.
It often looks… beautiful.
Satan doesn’t create—he counterfeits.
What he presents can look:
- appealing
- logical
- even “good”
That’s why both sides of the “garden” can appear right.
But one is truth.
And the other is a trap.
Why Discernment Matters
This is why discernment is so important.
Not based on:
- emotions
- opinions
- what feels right
But based on God’s truth.
We have to begin seeing through a different lens:
The Kingdom of God vs. the world.
Because God:
- is the Creator
- is unchanging
- is truth
And that is the only foundation strong enough to stand on.
A Call to Stand Firm
We are living in a time where:
- people are getting quiet
- people are becoming afraid
- people are choosing not to care
But there will come a time where you will be asked:
Where do you stand?
Not just:
“Do you believe in God?”
But:
What do you believe… and why?
This Isn’t About Arguing
Let me be clear—
This is not a call to argue, shame, or attack people.
That’s not God’s heart.
But if you know the truth…
and choose to withhold it when it matters…
You are not standing in God’s way.
Faith Will Be Tested
Think about it this way:
A test doesn’t just ask one question.
Your faith will be tested in different areas:
- beliefs
- values
- truth vs. compromise
So the real question is:
Are you rooted enough to stand?
Start Now
There is no better time than now.
Because the moment you hesitate…
you give room for doubt.
This isn’t something you drift into.
It’s something you choose intentionally.
